Nazi Germany is the regular English name for the period in German history from 1933 to 1945, when Germany was under the tyranny of Adolf Hitler through the Nazi Party (NSDAP). Under Hitler's run, Germany was changed into a totalitarian state in which the Nazi Party controlled about all parts of life. The official name of the state was Deutsches Reich ("German Reich") from 1933 to 1943 and Großdeutsches Reich ("Incredible German Reich") from 1943 to 1945. The period is additionally known under the names the Third Reich (Drittes Reich, signifying "Third Domain" or "Third Realm", with the Sacred Roman Realm and the German Realm being the initial two) and the National Communist Time frame (Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, contracted as NS-Zeit, actually "Time of National Communism"). The Nazi administration finished after the Associated Forces crushed Germany in May 1945, finishing World War II in Europe.
